Aston Villa fans should be buzzing over the future after the performance of the youngsters against Liverpool, according to Aston Villa.
The former Villa and Scotland star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, struggled to single out just one player who stole the show in what was a rare first-team opportunity for all the starting XI.
The Villans were forced into playing their under-18s and under-23s in their FA Cup tie after a positive Covid-19 test resulted in the entire first-team bubble entering self-isolation.
Louie Barry, 17, managed to score against to reigning Premier League champions to ensure the scores were level at half time, although goals from Sadio Mane, Georginio Wijnaldum and Mo Salah sealed victory for the Reds.
However, despite defeat, Hutton believes the fans at Villa Park will have taken great heart from what they saw and that the club looks to have an excellent future with the next generation of players.
Hutton told Football Insider: “They’ve got a great crop of players coming through there and I think it’s there for everybody to see with how well they done.
“I mean, we’re talking about Liverpool here, who put out a strong team. It’s not like they also put out their kids, it was a very strong team.
“It’s amazing to think, Lamare Bogarde, at 16, no fear, playing there, playing in the midfield. I thought (Mamadou) Sylla next to him was excellent, he was all over the place, Mungo Bridge at the back, I thought he defended excellently well – you can go on and on, the keeper, Onadi, with some outstanding saves.
“I think it gives great encouragement to every Aston Villa fan watching that thinking: ‘Right, we’ve got some really good players coming through the system here’.
“That’s what you want to see as fans, you want to see that so I’m sure they’ll be well chuffed by the performance of the young boys.”
