Allan Hutton has revealed Allan McGregor has no plans to hang up his gloves as Rangers prepare to table a new contract offer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Gers defender, who is best friends with the Ibrox shot-stopper, has lifted the lid on conversations with the 38-year-old over his future.
As revealed by Football Insider, Rangers are planning on tying the veteran goalkeeper down to a new deal after his impressive form between the sticks this season.
McGregor signed a one-year extension back in December 2019, meaning his current deal expires at the end of this season.
He been a mainstay for Steven Gerrard this season and has played 15 times across all competitions, including starts in all five of the Gers’ Europa League group stage games.
Hutton admitted he was not sure if talks over a new deal were underway yet but insisted the shot-stopper would love to remain part of what could be a history-making side.
Hutton told Football Insider: “I’ve had conversations with him before, he’s 38 now and I’m telling him: ‘Just play as long as you can, you’re playing at such a high level, why would you not want to continue that?’.
“I’m not sure if there’s talks. Obviously a lot of that sort of stuff, the cards are held close to the chest, but he wants to continue playing, he’s enjoying his football at the moment.
“He’s enjoying being part of a winning squad, working under Gerrard and seeing where this team can actually go.
“I keep saying they’re building something that’s going to be there for a long time. You want to be part of that, this team could go down in the history books for what they’re about to do so I’d want to be part of that for as long as possible.”
McGregor, who came through the youth ranks at Ibrox, has played a total of 366 times across all competitions during his two separate spells in Glasgow.
