Exclusive: Hutton tips Villa to land prolific PL striker & then go on spending spree

Alan Hutton believes that Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster could be one of a number of new striker signings at Aston Villa this summer.

The former Villa and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, suggests that the 20-year-old would be a great addition to the squad but that Dean Smith would need more proven forwards as well.

Goal.com report that the Villans are among the many suitors looking to take the hot prospect on loan for next season.

He scored 11 goals in 22 appearances while on loan at Championship outfit Swansea City last season and has been prolific for both Liverpool and England’s youth sides.

Villa boss Smith is looking to bolster his attacking options this summer after both Wesley Moraes and Mbwana Samatta struggled to make an impact last season.

Hutton believes his old manager would love to make Brewster part of the squad but suggests he could be one of a number of strikers through the door.

Asked if Brewster would be more of a squad player if signed, Hutton told Football Insider: “Yeah, of course. He’s very young and I think the next step for him and his career would obviously be the step up from the Championship to the Premier League.

“You’ve hit the nail on the head, I think he would be more of a squad player – yes, he’d get the experience and he’s play and I do think he’d score goals, he’s a very talented young boy but I don’t think you could pin your hopes on him playing week in, week out.

“I think it would be a case of if they brought in one or two others, it would be ideal for him. He could learn off others, he could go and play in a two and I think that would be the ideal situation for him.

“It would be a breakthrough season for him in the Premier League as well to get that experience before going back to Liverpool.

“I think that would be a squad one but one that Dean Smith would really like to have in the squad. It could be a step up or another great option, should I say, from what they’ve got.”

In other Aston Villa news, the Villans have been backed to sign a 25-year-old after a “huge” risk.
