Exclusive: Ipswich respond to Middlesbrough’s George Edmundson bid

Ipswich Town have rejected a bid from Middlesbrough to turn George Edmundson’s loan move into a permanent deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The 27-year-old went on loan to Boro following Ipswich’s promotion to the Premier League last season.

He has featured regularly for Michael Carrick’s side and they have made a move to sign him permanently – but have been rebuffed by the Tractor Boys.

Edmundson has made 20 appearances across all competitions for Boro this season after joining them in late August.

He played one minute in Ipswich’s 4-1 loss against Man City in the Premier League prior to leaving – his first-ever top-flight appearance.

The Manchester-born ace captained Middlesbrough in their 1-0 FA Cup defeat against Blackburn on Saturday (11 January).

He has made 75 appearances for the Suffolk outfit after joining them from Rangers in 2021.

The 27-year-old has also turned out at Oldham, Derby, AFC Fylde and Alfreton Town.
