Exclusive: Ipswich Town ‘amazed’ by what they’ve seen from Kalvin Phillips
Ipswich Town chiefs are not happy with the condition of on-loan Man City star Kalvin Phillips, sources have told Football Insider.
The Tractor Boys moved to bring the 28-year-old to Portman Road on a season-long loan following their promotion to the Premier League.
Phillips’ stock plummeted last term after a disastrous loan spell with West Ham and a lack of first-team action with Man City.
The midfielder has struggled to turn his reputation around so far at Ipswich, with club chiefs unhappy with his performances for Kieran McKenna’s side.
Sources say the Suffolk outfit are “amazed” at Phillips’ lack of mobility and running power.
Meanwhile, insiders say his condition is nowhere near the level of a top Premier League footballer.
Ipswich chiefs ‘amazed’ at Phillips’ condition
Phillips suffered injuries in the first weeks of the season but has now made six appearances across all competitions this term.
He has completed the full 90 minutes in just one of those outings and is often substituted with around 20 minutes left to play.
The England international, who last played for his country in November 2023, made just 10 appearances for West Ham last term before being bombed out of the squad.

Ipswich sit 17th in the Premier League on four points and are one of four winless sides in the top flight this season.
The Tractor Boys and Phillips are next in action against Brentford on Saturday (26 October).
