Exclusive: Jose Mourinho’s two-word verdict on being West Ham manager revealed
Jose Mourinho is “very interested” in the prospect of taking over from Julen Lopetegui at West Ham, sources with knowledge of his situation have told Football Insider.
This comes amid growing pressure on the manager’s position following a slow start to the season, with just three wins from 11 Premier League games.
There has been growing frustration from the stands at the London Stadium, while Football Insider revealed the Hammers are now weighing up a “Plan B”.
The former Chelsea, Tottenham and Man United boss has made no secret of his desire to return to England and has been putting his name in the media to drum up interest.
Newcastle had been his reported target given the stature and financial backing.
However, Football Insider revealed on 16 November that the Magpies are not planning to part ways with Eddie Howe any time soon, making a move highly unlikely.
Sources say Mourinho would “jump at the chance” to return to London with the Hammers, and still has a house in the capital with a return to England now on the cards.
Jose Mourinho to ‘jump at’ West Ham managers job in new twist
Mourinho has been outspoken about the possibility of a return to England after initially claiming: “The best thing I have to do is when I leave Fener is that I go to a club that doesn’t play in UEFA competition. So a club at the bottom in England who needs a coach in two years, I’m ready to go.“
He then insisted: “Nobody wants to watch the Turkish league… Why should they see this? … It’s too grey, it’s too dark, smells bad.”
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the boss is advertising his availability ahead of a return to the Premier League.
West Ham are the latest club the boss has been linked with, ramping up the pressure on Lopetegui’s position with the club now set to consider their options.
Sources say a decision over the manager’s future is not imminent, but continued inconsistent results would likely result in his departure.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness previously told Football Insider that Mourinho would “spark some life” into the Irons as he weighs up his future at Fenerbahce.
As pressure continues to grow on Lopetegui, Mourinho’s eagerness to take over could tempt the West Ham board to make a decision.
