Exclusive: Junior Firpo close to agreeing Leeds transfer after offer submitted

Junior Firpo is increasingly likely to leave Leeds United as a free agent later this month after rejecting a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.

The 28-year-old left-back is out of contract on 30 June after spending four mixed years at Elland Road.

Firpo is attracting interest from across Europe after playing a crucial role in Leeds’ Championship title-winning campaign.

AC Milan, Olympique Lyonnais and Spanish sides are all ready to sign the Dominican Republic international on a free transfer.

Firpo increasingly likely to quit Leeds

Firpo has also been made a renewal offer at Leeds but nothing has been agreed – and it is believed he is inching closer to the exit door at Elland Road.

He made 35 appearances across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign, notching four goals and 10 assists for Daniel Farke‘s side.

The left-back has even become a fan favourite at Leeds after facing criticism from the Elland Road faithful during his first two years at the club.

He has made 119 appearances for the Whites since joining from Barcelona for a fee of around £13million.

Farke’s side must also make a decision on the future of Sam Byram, who is out of contract later this month.

Pope is a reported target for Leeds this summer.

Nick Pope to Leeds update

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (2 June) that Nick Pope’s preference is to remain at Newcastle this summer amid links with Leeds.

Farke’s side are desperate to add a new first-choice goalkeeper after Illan Meslier’s struggles at Elland Road in the 2024-25 campaign.

However, Pope is believed to be keen to fight for the first-choice berth at Newcastle even if James Trafford joins the club from Burnley.
