Kevin Phillips has been blown away by the “incredible” impact made by Steven Gerrard at Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England striker and Premier League coach hailed the Liverpool icon for making such a good fist of his first management post.
Gerrard has transformed the fortunes of the Glasgow giants since taking over in the summer of 2018.
He has helped Rangers re-establish themselves as a European force as well as narrow the gap on Celtic ahead of what promises to be the best SPL title race in a decade.
Asked by Football Insider for his verdict on how Gerrard has done at Rangers, Phillips said: “Incredible, absolutely incredible. Because of having no experience of managing – of course he was with Liverpool’s under-18s – so he has had experience of managing,
making decisions, picking a team, tactics – but to take that to Rangers, now.
“To take it to one of the biggest clubs in Europe and making the impression that he has done and making decisions.
“Of course, taking Gary McAllister was probably a big coup as well, helping him.
“You have to give huge credit to him (Gerrard) and for him all of a sudden to be challenging Celtic in his second season at the top of the SPL, credit to him, absolutely fantastic job.
“And if they went on to win the league, manage to do it, he’d be a legend there for the rest of his life.”
