Exclusive: Kevin Phillips makes Rangers whistleblower claim amid extraordinary drama

Kevin Phillips has urged Rangers to present their whistleblower evidence against the SPFL in what he admits is a “bizarre situation” in Scotland.

The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted it is the Gers “duty to present” the evidence they have acquired which brings last week’s vote into question.

Amid extraordinary drama in the last week, the Light Blues claim to have received vital evidence from a whistleblower that casts doubt over the members’ ballot and have subsequently called for a probe to be launched into the “voting debacle”.

The Rangers website said, “We will not be bullied into silence. We believe it is in the interests of all Scottish clubs and supporters that the evidence, which is alarming, be addressed as quickly as possible.”

Phillips supported SPFL chairman Murdoch MacLennan in his call for Gers interim chairman Douglas Park to substantiate the claims or withdraw them.

“It is a strange one,” the former Premier League Golden Boot winner told Football Insider.

“The head of the SPFL is asking for the evidence to be presented and it is your duty to present it. You would like to thing a corporation like Rangers would not make these accusations if they did not have any concrete evidence and if they have you need to present it to the powers that be.

“It is a bizarre situation. I see why they want to stop the league because if these clubs do not get money now they could go out of business.

“In England I want the season to reconvene for all of the leagues. Let’s not forget whatever league you are in, the higher you finish, even if it is one spot, can mean an extra 100 grand to your football club.”

The Gers have proposed a plan that would see prize money be distributed now, via interest-free loans as well as the current campaign being completed.

In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the board are furious at the latest decision made by SPFL club.
