Exclusive: Kevin Phillips names the West Ham player who can cause havoc v Arsenal

Kevin Phillips has tipped Jarrod Bowen to start for West Ham today and insisted the big Arsenal pitch will suit him to the ground.

The former Sunderland and Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed the 23-year-old will be “full of confidence” after last weekend’s win in which he scored.

Having signed for the Hammers on deadline day in January from Hull City, Bowen made only his first start under David Moyes in last Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Southampton at the London Stadium.

The winger was a substitute for the previous trips to Manchester City and Liverpool, both of which The Irons lost.

Despite being faced with another difficult away match, Phillips is adamant Moyes will stick with the winter signing at the Emirates.

“I would keep him in there because West Ham needs points,” the former England international told Football Insider.

“It was only a matter of time until he put him into the side and how many times do you see it with a new signing making an impression?

“West Ham need results and you want your best players playing and Jarrod Bowen has shown he has top quality. I would be surprised if he did not start the next two games because he is full of confidence.

“The pressure is off now he has got his goal, now go and play! It is a big pitch at the Emirates so it will be something that suits Bowen, lots of space. I will put my neck on the line and say he will start.”

The Hammers climbed out of the relegation zone and into 16th following last week’s win.

Bowen’s first goal for the club was his 18th in all competitions this season having scored 17 for Hull before the move to London.
