Exclusive: Kevin Thelwell makes Sean Dyche plea to Rangers board

Kevin Thelwell has told Rangers chiefs that Sean Dyche would be a “brilliant” next manager of the club, sources have told Football Insider.

The Ibrox club are exploring new manager options with interim Barry Ferguson not expected to land the job permanently.

Thelwell has been appointed the new sporting director at Rangers and is tasked with overseeing the club’s new manager search.

Some reports had suggested Thelwell, 51, and Dyche, 53, had a frosty relationship before the manager’s Everton exit earlier this year.

Thelwell is a big admirer of ex-Everton boss Dyche

But the Everton recruitment chief is believed to be a big admirer of Dyche and believes he has the personality to cope with the Ibrox spotlight.

Thelwell is believed to be confident that Dyche’s physical, ‘up-and-at-them’ style would go down well with Rangers fans.

Everton sacked the 53-year-old in January and replaced him with David Moyes, who has since transformed fortunes at Goodison Park.

Dyche spent almost two years on Merseyside and staved off the threat of relegation last season and in the 2022-23 campaign.

Football Insider revealed on 22 April that Leicester are readying a move for Dyche as they prepare for life after Ruud van Nistelrooy.
