Exclusive: Leeds and Wolves race to sign Dembo Saidykhan

Leeds and Wolves are among a host of clubs interested in Vancouver Whitecaps defender Dembo Saidykhan, sources have told Football Insider.

Saidykhan, 21, has caught the eye for the Major League Soccer side and Gambia in the last 18 months – and he has emerged on the radar for a number of clubs in Europe.

The centre-back, who can also play at right-back, is out of contract in Vancouver at the end of this year.

The Canadian club could decide to cash in on Saidykhan in this summer’s transfer window rather than risk allowing him to run down his deal.

Leeds and Wolves weigh up cut-price move for MLS sensation

Saidykhan’s potential availability for a cut-price fee has alerted the likes of Wolves and newly-promoted Leeds United – as well as French side Troyes and Belgian outfit Anderlecht.

He has made 17 appearances for Whitecaps II since joining from Steve Biko FC in Gambia.

The versatile defender has played for Gambia’s Under-20 side and was called up to the country’s senior side for the first time in June 2024.

Leeds will play Premier League football next term under Daniel Farke after they won 6-0 against Stoke on Monday (21 April) and Sheffield United dropped points away at Burnley.

Wolves have secured top-flight survival after an incredible revival under Vitor Pereira, who replaced Gary O’Neil in December 2024.

Farke’s side will be desperate to get a foothold in the Premier League after seeing Southampton, Ipswich and Leicester relegated at the earliest opportunity this season.
