Leeds United may sign a number of Manchester City rising stars this summer if they get promoted, according to Noel Whelan.
The former United striker told Football Insider he wouldn’t be surprised if some more of Pep Guardiola’s players were to follow Jack Harrison in making loan moves to Elland Road.
Whelan claimed Marcelo Bielsa will have a better chance of taking advantage of his longstanding relationship with Pep Guardiola to land some of the treble chasers’ top young talent if they are playing in the Premier League next season.
The City manager has revealed he has been closely following Leeds’ automatic promotion pursuit and wants them to join his own side in England’s top flight.
“Bielsa and Guardiola have been good friends from a long time ago and have a special relationship with each other, and that can only be a good thing for Leeds,” Whelan said to Football Insider.
“We have only taken Harrison from Man City so far, but that’s probably because we have been in the Championship and they would rather their youngsters play in certain leagues.
“Maybe next season there might be a couple of Man City’s young players going on loan to Leeds, who can really help us if we get promoted. We are not going to be able to afford the same players as Man City even if we get promoted, so we won’t be a rival to them.”
Harrison is one of 14 City players who are currently out on loan until the end of the season, or the end of the 2019-20 campaign.
In other Leeds United transfer news, it can be REVEALED that the club have set their sights on signing two Liverpool players who have dazzled this season.
