Leeds United boss

Noel Whelan admits he would “love” to see Leeds United sign Norwich City playmaker Todd Cantwell before the domestic transfer deadline.

The former Leeds striker and lifelong fan of the club, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the “exciting” Canaries star would “fit right in” at Elland Road.

As revealed by Football Insider on Saturday, Leeds have made a fresh move to sign the 22-year-old after they previously launched a £15million bid to try and prise him from Carrow Road.

While the international transfer deadline passed on Monday, the Whites could still strike a deal with the Canaries for the attacking midfielder before the domestic Premier League-EFL deadline of 16 October.

Whelan has been left drooling over the prospect of Cantwell linking up with Marcelo Bielsa and his men in the Premier League.

Whelan told Football Insider: “He’s exactly the type of player who would fit right into the way we play and our style.

“Really exciting, young prospect, it seems like he’s getting better and better when I see him playing at Norwich and I just think if he came to Elland Road, that would be your number 10 sorted straight away.

“He’s busy, he gets on the ball, he’s brave, he can dribble, he’s got fantastic feet and fantastic vision. I think he would fit straight into the side, the way we play and the style of play and he’s exciting.

“I would love him to come to Elland Road.”

Cantwell played 36 times in the Premier League last season but his six goals and two assists were not enough to keep Norwich from the drop.

He featured in the Canaries’ opening two Championship fixtures this term but has been left out of the last two matchday squads. by Daniel Farke.
