Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa

Danny Mills believes Marcelo Bielsa will pick Patrick Bamford to lead the Leeds United line against Liverpool ahead of record signing Rodrigo.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Leeds defender claimed the Leeds boss will feel a sense of loyalty towards Bamford.

Rodrigo, 29, joined the Whites last week from Valencia for £27m, as he became the club’s record signing.

However, after being away with the Spain squad, the forward only joined up with his new teammates this week.

Asked by Football Insider whether Bielsa may play both Bamford and Rodrigo together, Mills said:“I think it will be one, and it will depend on how fit Rodrigo looks and how he has fitted into everything in preseason.

“There is a good chance, because of loyalty, that he may well give Bamford the opportunity to start the season.

“It’s easy to say to Rodrigo ‘look, you’ve just come in, you’re not quite up to speed yet I’m going to start with you on the bench.’

“He can be loyal to Bamford and say ‘here’s an opportunity, you worked incredibly hard for us last season so therefore you deserve this chance.’

“If it’s not going particularly well he can change it at half time or whenever he chooses to.

“You know you’re not going to dominate possession or have an awful lot of the ball against Liverpool so you might have to play in a slightly different way and Bamford’s done that all last season.

“We know he can work incredibly hard so he (Bielsa) might be thinking ‘you know what, first half we need to keep it tight and close them down’ and Bamford might just be the better option to do that in the first half.”
