Exclusive: ‘Leeds to land instant £200m windfall’

Leeds United will play Premier League football next season after a two-year absence and will enjoy the financial fruits of their achievement.

The Whites will have to strengthen to survive in the top flight but will be aided by the huge financial benefits of promotion.

Daniel Farke‘s side secured a top-two finish on Monday (21 April) and will now fight Burnley for the Championship title in the last two games of this season.

The financial benefits will be welcome to Leeds – who posted a £60million loss in the 2023-24 campaign after losing in the play-off final against Southampton.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted they are looking at a instant benefit of around £200million following promotion, with sponsorships playing a huge part in that uplift.

Leeds’ sponsors to bankroll instant windfall, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted he expects £60million of that figure to come from an “uplift” in sponsorship deals.

Red Bull are the club’s minority owners and front-of-shirt sponsors after agreeing an investment deal last year (2024).

Wyness claimed Leeds are a “big club” who “deserve” to play Premier League football.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “You could hear the sigh of relief through the whole city of Leeds.

“What’s promotion worth? You’re going to be getting around £140million in broadcast money straight away.

“Of course, all your sponsorship deals then kick on – so they’re looking at £200million at least.

“Leeds have got a lot going on. They’re talking about the stadium expansion, for example.

“I’m pleased for them. We know they’re a big club and they deserve to be in the Premier League.

“Can they now stay up? That’s the big question.”

There is a possibility Leeds’s owners could be tempted to make a change ahead of their return to the Premier League.

A shortlist has been drawn up behind the scenes as a replacement for Farke is considered ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
