Exclusive: ‘Leeds United could be hit with six-point deduction’
Leeds United are putting plans in place for a major assault on the transfer market this summer despite operating under strict financial constraints.
Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (7 May) Leeds will have a budget of £150million to spend when the window opens next month.
The Yorkshire giants have set their sights on making 10 signings as they bid to secure their place in the top flight.
That is despite reporting a loss of £60.8million for the 2023-24 campaign, which will hamper their ability to remain compliant with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has warned spending that figure could incur a “four to six-point deduction” for breaking PSR.

Leeds will play their part in ‘monumental’ transfer window, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed dicing with a points deduction is a “fair gamble” for Leeds.
Each of the last six promoted clubs have been relegated from the Premier League at the earliest opportunity – including Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton this season.
Position | Team | Played | Points | GD |
1 | Leeds United (C) | 46 | 100 | 65 |
2 | Burnley (P) | 46 | 100 | 53 |
3 | Sheffield United (PO) | 46 | 90 | 27 |
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “If they do spend £150million, then they are gambling with a points deduction – in my opinion, from the numbers I’ve seen.
“Leeds are quite at liberty to do that. From they cases they’ve already seen, they will assess that it could be a four or six-point deduction.
“Their gamble will be on making the squad strong enough to survive that.
“It’s a fair gamble, and that’s one way to look at it.
“There’s no doubt the 49ers will back them, but it’s just about whether they are prepared to really roll the dice.
“They’ve got the resources to do it. It will also depend on how they evaluate the players they’ve got, and whether they are Premier League quality.
“This will be one of the most monumental transfer windows we’ve ever seen, I think.
“I expect big movement in the Premier League. Not everybody can be a winner, and the jeopardy is getting bigger and bigger.”

Leeds line up four midfielder deals
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 8 May that Leeds are plotting moves for two central midfielders and two wingers this summer.
It is believed big upgrades in the middle of the park are on the agenda at Elland Road despite their strong performance in the Championship this term.
Meanwhile, the Whites are keen to make Manor Solomon’s loan permanent by agreeing a deal with Tottenham when the window opens.
