'Trust me, it is massive' - Exclusive: Leeds talks over mega-money new deal Wows pundit

Darren Bent admits it would be “massive” if Leeds United can tie Marcelo Bielsa down to a new and improved contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Aston Villa and England striker insists it is crucial the Whites keep the Argentine on board after his “superb” work at Elland Road.

As revealed by Football Insider, the top brass at Leeds are holding talks with the Argentine over a new deal worth in excess of £100,000-a-week.

Bielsa’s current £60,000-a-week deal is set to expire at the end of the month but despite holding an extension clause, Leeds want to reward him with a hefty pay rise.

Bent insists that keeping the 64-year-old on board must be a huge priority for the board at Elland Road and claims that the Premier League is where a manager of his calibre deserves to be.

Bent told Football Insider: “Trust me, it is massive, they need to keep him because he is massive – what he’s done is superb.

“Listen, they should have been promoted last season and that shows the quality of the manager – he’s understood and realised the faults of last season and where they maybe slipped up.

“The drop-off, sometimes you get a bit of a hangover in the second season when you’ve been so close, you don’t get there and the lads are like: ‘Ugh, we’re never going to do it.’

“For him to be able to pick the players up, realise that the system they used last year was working but they faltered at certain stages, he’s come back, completely ripped that apart and they’ve been so dominant, they’ve been superb.

“Looking at his resume and hearing some of the top managers in the world talk about him, he’s exactly where he deserves to be.”
