Exclusive: ‘Leicester City to receive six-point deduction imminently’

Leicester City have been charged with yet another alleged breach of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for the 2023-24 campaign – their Championship title-winning campaign.

The Foxes’ spending limit for the three-year cycle up to 2023-24 was £83million as the cap drops from £35million a season in the Premier League to £13million in the Championship.

Leicester have been referred to an independent commission for their latest alleged breach – but it has been confirmed they will not face punishment for their rule breach in the 2022-23 season after exploiting a loophole in the rules.

Leicester suffered a £72million hit last season after their turnover fell from £177million in 2022-23 to £105million while in the Championship.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has claimed he expects the Foxes to be hit with a six-point deduction.

Leicester will wish they took points deduction this season, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed Leicester should have taken the points hit this season – looking back in retrospect.

Ruud van Nistelrooy‘s side sit 18th in the table but are already relegated with the Midlands side 13 points adrift of 17th-place Tottenham.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think there’s going to be a points deduction for this new charge.

“They should be expecting something like six points while they are in the Championship.

“The irony is that if they took the charge this season, they would’ve still been relegated – so it would’ve made sense to take it this year.

“Next season, they’ll be fighting for promotion with a six-point deduction.”

Leicester in advanced talks to appoint Martin

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (20 May) that Leicester are in advanced talks to appoint Russell Martin as their new manager.

Leicester have decided to sack Van Nistelrooy as they assess the market for alternatives.

39-year-old Martin has been out of work since being sacked by Southampton last December, and is keen to return to management ahead of next season.
