Exclusive: Liberato Cacace undergoing Wrexham medical after club-record bid accepted
Empoli defender Liberato Cacace is set to undergo a Wrexham medical after their £4million bid was accepted, sources have told Football Insider.
The Championship new boys have agreed a fee with Empoli for the 24-year-old following their relegation from Serie A last season.
Cacace has been given the green light to finalise personal terms and undergo a medical with the Welsh club.
Cacace will become Wrexham’s new record signing in a deal regarded as a big coup.
Wrexham secure highly-rated New Zealand international
With 33 caps for the New Zealand national side, Cacace is an experienced left-back who will bring versatility to the Wrexham squad.
The defender began his career at A-League side Wellington Phoenix, before making the switch to Sint-Truiden in Belgium in the summer of 2020.
Wrexham play Wellington in a pre-season friendly on Saturday (19 July), which could see Cacace face off against his boyhood club.
Last season, the New Zealander made 24 starts for Empoli in Serie A, scoring two goals and picking up four assists.
He was very highly rated in Italy, and makes the move to the Championship with a lot of pressure on his shoulders, as Wrexham’s record signing.
Phil Parkinson will hope the full-back can hit the ground running, as the Welsh side aim for a successful campaign in the second tier.

Wrexham eye Hull City defender
Meanwhile, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Stoke City, Derby County and Wrexham are racing to sign Hull City defender John Egan.
The Championship trio have all registered their interest in the 32-year-old, who impressed for Hull in the second half of last season following his arrival from Burnley in January for an undisclosed fee.
Egan could be available for a minimal fee due to the East Yorkshire club’s ongoing financial issues, after Hull were sanctioned with a transfer embargo concerning loan payments to Aston Villa last season.
In 2024/25, the Republic of Ireland international made 11 appearances for Hull to help the Tigers secure survival in the Championship.
