Exclusive: ‘Liverpool could agree clever Alexander-Arnold add-ons’

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Real Madrid move is yet to be announced but the Spanish giants are keen to have the right-back available for the Club World Cup next month.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (12 May) that Liverpool are fully expected to agree a deal with Real Madrid over an early exit for Alexander-Arnold.

The Club World Cup starts on 14 June, two weeks before the end of the defender’s Reds contract.

Winners of the new-look competition are set to come away with up to £97million in prize money.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested he expects Liverpool to come up with a clever solution as they attempt to claw back some money from Alexander-Arnold‘s free transfer exit.

Liverpool could bank £5m Alexander-Arnold boost

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed Liverpool could agree a deal for Alexander-Arnold contingent on Real Madrid’s performance at the Club World Cup.

The La Liga runners-up will play Al-Hilal, RB Salzburg and Pachuca in the group stage of the competition – which will also feature English representatives Man City and Chelsea.

Wyness suggested Liverpool could come away with as much as £5million.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It does make sense for Real Madrid to try and have him available with the trophy and the prize money at stake.

“I believe Real have offered £500,000.

“If I were Liverpool and negotiating with Madrid, I’d be thinking about the prize money – and what percentage of contribution Trent could make towards that.

“If they make £100million dollars and they think Trent could contribute 5%, it’s £5million.

“I’d start the ask at £5million and see what Real come up to. Liverpool could even make the fee contingent on the amount of prize money won.

“They’ve got clever guys at Liverpool and I’m sure they’ll negotiate some sort of deal. That’s the way I’d look at it if I was sat in the hot seat at Anfield.”

Liverpool close to signing Alexander-Arnold replacement

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (16 May) that Liverpool are in advanced talks to seal a deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong.

A full agreement is almost in place between all parties, with a growing belief that it is now a matter of when not if the 24-year-old arrives at Anfield.

The wing-back has a £29.6million release clause in his Leverkusen contract, which is seen as a bargain deal for the Reds.
