Exclusive: Liverpool make new Mohamed Salah exit plan, A-list signing lined up

Mohamed Salah is now expected to stay at Liverpool beyond the January transfer window and until the end of the season, sources have told Football Insider.

The 33-year-old’s future had been up in the air following his bust-up with Arne Slot, but the Merseyside giants have no intention of letting him leave in January.

The decision was made prior to Alexander Isak’s injury against Tottenham, which could see him sidelined for months, but that situation has supported their call.

Slot remains keen to bring in an A-list attacker during the mid-season window, after Football Insider revealed Liverpool are in the race for Antoine Semenyo.

However, Salah is expected to remain for the rest of the season regardless of potential additions, as the club now expect him to move to Saudi Arabia next summer.

Mohamed Salah likely to leave Liverpool

Football Insider revealed on 7 December that Salah’s exit is off the cards in January despite the fall-out, but could be revisited in the summer.

The winger’s participation at AFCON means he could be unavailable until mid-way through the window, with his focus currently on his performances for Egypt.

However, upon his return, he is expected to remain an important part of Slot’s squad for the remainder of the season as they aim to turn around their recent form.

The pair have agreed to put their differences aside until the season’s end, when the situation will be revisited and he is now expected to leave.

Football Insider revealed that Saudi Pro League clubs want Salah to finally join despite him turning down interest in favour of a new deal at Anfield in the summer of 2025.

Hugo Ekitike backed to fill the boots of Salah and Isak

Salah’s long-term future at Liverpool has become a major concern amongst supporters given the longevity of his importance to their success.

As a result, his absence both through AFCON and potentially into the future with a move away have led to concerns about potential replacements.

While new deals will be lined up, Hugo Ekitike is being backed to step up over the coming weeks, thanks to his recent performances in a Liverpool shirt.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to his Anfield career despite a tricky season so far, and has scored 11 goals in 24 appearances since arriving from Frankfurt.

With Isak expected to miss “a number of weeks” and Mohamed Salah leaving to participate in AFCON, Slot will now be relying on the Frenchman’s form to continue.
