Exclusive: Liverpool respond as Real Madrid intensify Alexander-Arnold pursuit

Real Madrid are stepping up their interest in Trent Alexander-Arnold as Liverpool ward off a January move, sources have told Football Insider.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are undergoing an injury crisis right now as Dani Carvajal has suffered a serious knee issue, which has left the Spanish giants vulnerable defensively.

The experienced full-back will be unavailable for several months after suffering a ruptured ACL, which is why the club are now intensifying their pursuit of Liverpool’s 25-year-old defender.

The England international is out of contract at Anfield next summer, but sources tell Football Insider that Liverpool are hopeful they can convince him to stay.

Liverpool have privately ruled out any possibility that they will sell Alexander-Arnold in January, but defensive signings are on the agenda for Real Madrid in the next few windows.

Football Insider previously revealed that remaining at Liverpool is something Alexander-Arnold is “more than happy” to do.

Real Madrid will need to push Trent Alexander-Arnold

Alexander-Arnold has “put the ball in Liverpool’s court” regarding his future at the club, which is why Real Madrid will need to step up should they wish to sign him.

The right-back will be able to negotiate with foreign clubs in January if he hasn’t extended his deal at the Merseyside club, and he is able to sign a pre-contract for another team for next season.

Alexander-Arnold has remained a crucial part of the Liverpool team under Arne Slot this season, starting all seven Premier League games and both of their Champions League fixtures.

Alexander-Arnold is not the only major Liverpool player running out of contract next summer, as Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are in the same situation.

However, all three men have been tipped to agree pre-January deals with the Premier League giants by Keith Wyness.
