Danny Mills has tipped Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to earn his first Premier League start against Wolves on Sunday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, the former Leeds United and England defender delivered his verdict after the 22-year-old started against Ajax in the Champions League on Tuesday night with first-choice Alisson Becker out injured.
Adrian has deputised for Alisson twice in the Premier League this term, including their 7-2 thrashing by Aston Villa in October.
However, it now seems the Cork-born stopper has leapfrogged him to become Klopp’s second-choice goalkeeper.
Klopp admitted before the game against Ajax that the Brazilian is likely to miss the visit of Wolves at the weekend.
Asked by Football Insider whether he expects Kelleher to retain his place after keeping a clean sheet against Ajax, Mills said: “There’s no reason, with Alisson not fit, then I can’t see why Kelleher would not start.
“Although it wasn’t the most important of Liverpool’s Champions League games, you don’t throw him in there if he can’t play in the Premier League.
“You don’t want to chop and change with three goalkeepers that’s not really going to work with anybody in any situation.
“I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he starts.”
Kelleher has played five times for Liverpool’s first team in the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Champions League.
In other Liverpool news, Gabriel Agbonlahor has been blown away by a Reds teenager who is “like Diogo Jota”.
