Exclusive: Liverpool to afford huge Florian Wirtz deal amid £550m+ backdrop
Liverpool’s strong revenue streams coupled with their on-pitch success mean there will be no issues financing a deal for Florian Wirtz.
Football finance expert Dan Plumley exclusively revealed to Football Insider that the club’s revenue is currently over €660million (£559m), meaning “affordability is not a problem” for the German midfielder.
Wirtz is one of world football’s most sought-after players this summer, after several seasons of success in the Bundesliga.
Whilst he had been a highly-touted prospect since breaking through at Bayer Leverkusen in the 2019/20 season, his role in the club’s title-winning campaign in the 2023/24 season brought him to the attention of a global audience
The 22-year-old carried on his form into last season, scoring 16 goals and assisting 14 more, despite the German side failing to match the success of their Bundesliga-winning campaign.
Man City were the early favourites to sign Wirtz, with Pep Guardiola in need of a new creative fulcrum thanks to Kevin De Bruyne‘s departure, but pulled out of the race for the midfielder.
But despite interest from the Sky Blues, the German midfielder looks set to join Arne Slot‘s side.
Liverpool are yet to agree a fee for Wirtz, and Pete O’Rourke revealed to Football Insider that the club had a bid of £110m rejected.

Liverpool’s growing revenue makes Florian Wirtz deal affordable
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, finance expert Plumley explained that Liverpool had a revenue line of over €660m (£559.58m) plus another €100m (£84.79m) gained from winning the Premier League and competing in the Champions League.
When asked whether the Reds could be priced out of a deal for Wirtz, he said: “They can afford it, the revenue line is over €660m, it’s been growing.
“They’ve just won the Premier League, Champions League banks them another €100m, estimated.
“They had that last year, they’ll get that again this season coming, affordability is not a problem, it’s just a case of do they want to pay that fee and what that price is is going to be.”

Liverpool armed with £250m transfer budget
In addition to the strong revenue streams that Plumley outlined, ex-Everton CEO Keith Wyness revealed exclusively to Football Insider that Liverpool will have £250m to spend this summer, according to Reds sources.
The Premier League champions have already made use of that budget by signing Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.
Mick Brown also told Football Insider that Liverpool are prepared to meet Bournemouth’s £45m asking price for Milos Kerkez.

With one signing completed, the deals for Wirtz and a new left-back in the offing and a new striker looking likely to arrive, the Reds are wasting no time in strengthening their bid for back-to-back Premier League titles.
Martin Allen revealed to Liverpool News that Dominik Szoboszlai is facing an uncertain future, thanks to Wirtz’s impending arrival at Anfield.
