Exclusive: Liverpool to open Mohamed Salah talks after bombshell
Liverpool will open talks with Mohamed Salah “soon” after his on-air plea on Sunday (1 September), sources have told Football Insider.
In a bombshell in the immediate aftermath of his team’s 3-0 drubbing of Man United at Old Trafford, Salah told Sky Sports this is his “last season” at the club as “nobody has talked to me” about a new deal.
The Egypt international, 32, has gone public for the first time about his Anfield future, heaping pressure on Liverpool chiefs with his deal set to expire in June 2025.
But sources say the saga is set to take another twist, as talks are set to open with Salah within weeks.
It is believed all focus had been on bedding in the new manager Arne Slot and the new recruitment staff such as Richard Hughes and the returning Michael Edwards.
The transfer window slammed shut on Friday (30 August) and Liverpool are now set to start negotiations with Salah.
Liverpool now set to open talks with electric Salah
He has started the 2024-25 campaign in electric form, notching three goals and three assists across three Premier League games.
The winger has been an integral part of Liverpool’s flawless start to the new campaign.

Salah has been a long-term target for top Saudi clubs, who saw a £150million offer rejected in the summer of 2023.
The former Chelsea and Roma star is the 10th-highest scorer in Premier League history (160 goals) and is closing in on Jermain Defoe (162) and Robbie Fowler (163).
In other news, Liverpool have made behind-the-scenes Jarrad Branthwaite move.
