Exclusive: Liverpool work on signing Marc Guehi in January, deal is now more complex
Liverpool will make a strong new push for Marc Guehi in the January window after the last-minute summer collapse, sources have told Football Insider.
The Crystal Palace defender, 25, came within a whisker of completing a move to Anfield after agreeing terms with the club.
But Liverpool and Palace could not agree a price or the structure of a deal and the transfer eventually fell through on deadline day.
Sources say Liverpool recognise they messed up over the deal and the club will go “all out” to get Guehi in the mid-season window.
However, their pursuit is now complicated by strong interest from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, who are both working on deals to land Guehi next year.
It means Liverpool are likely to have to pay Guehi a higher salary as well as increased agent fees to get a deal over the line in January.

Liverpool remain in Marc Guehi transfer saga
Guehi had travelled to Liverpool for a medical on deadline day during the summer transfer window, as the Reds were expected to complete a deal for the 25-year-old.
However, a deal for Guehi to move to Anfield fell through as Igor Julio’s move to Crystal Palace from Brighton collapsed.
Liverpool had agreed a deal worth £35million in the summer, but that fee could increase in the January window if they are to force Palace to sell.
Guehi’s contract expires at the end of the season, so the defender would be allowed to leave the club on a free next summer.
Daneil Munoz could also leave Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace could lose Daniel Munoz in January to Chelsea in another blow to Oliver Glasner’s defensive ranks.

Any sale is unlikely to be sanctioned unless a replacement is found, and Palace intend on backing Glasner in the January transfer window.
Palace are facing heavy fixture congestion around the festive period due to their commitments in the Europa Conference League this season.
Glasner is keen to add to his squad to aid their need to compete in both the Premier League and in Europe.
