Exclusive: Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott asking price revealed as rivals swoop

Newcastle United aren’t willing to pay over the odds for Harvey Elliott as speuclation grows over his Liverpool future, sources have told Football Insider.

Elliott has had a frustrating season at Anfield despite Liverpool looking set to lift the Premier League title at a canter, making 21 appearances and scoring four goals despite starting just twice in all competitions.

Football Insider revealed on 21 March that Liverpool are “desperate” to keep Elliott this summer despite his lack of minutes, but Arne Slot could elect to cash in amid interest from a number of European clubs.

Newcastle and some Bundesliga sides are keeping tabs on the 21-year-old across the rest of the season, but sources have told Football Insider that Liverpool still see Elliott as part of their long-term plan.

Eddie Howe’s side, however, will have to pay between £40million and £50m if they’re to sign Elliott this summer, and that’s something Newcastle are unlikely to do with PSR and FFP both firmly in mind.

Liverpool likely to keep Harvey Elliott amid transfer evaluation

Liverpool and the Magpies look set to do business aplenty this summer with several players potentially moving across the two clubs, with Newcastle’s interest in centre-back Jarell Quansah being no secret.

Football Insider has previously revealed that Howe’s side aren’t keen on paying £30m to sign Quansah this summer, and Liverpool’s £40–£50m price tag for Elliott will likely be met with the same response.

Slot will consider selling Elliott in order to fund a Liverpool rebuild this summer, but with Newcastle looking to do the same, the huge fee demanded for the midfielder makes any transfer a non-starter.

Elliott a long way down the transfer list for Newcastle

Newcastle fans are anticipating a busy summer on the transfer front in terms of incomings, but the Magpies’ first priority will be to keep hold of Alexander Isak with Liverpool the front-runners to sign him.

Defensive reinforcements are also high on the list, and with Dean Huijsen having a £50m release clause in his Bournemouth contract, sources told Football Insider that Newcastle are well-placed to sign him.

That’s similar to the amount Liverpool are demanding for Elliott, and given he’d be unlikely to displace Joelinton, Sandro Tonali or Bruno Guimaraes any time soon, Newcastle are wise to look elsewhere with their summer transfer budget.
