Exclusive: Liverpool’s Stefan Bajcetic plan revealed after new talks

Liverpool have big plans for midfield sensation Stefan Bajcetic this season, sources have told Football Insider.

The 19-year-old missed almost all of last season due to a serious calf injury but has made a huge impression in pre-season under new manager Arne Slot.

Sources have told Football Insider that the Dutchman and his coaching staff rate Bajcetic very highly and plan to give the Spain Under-21 international extensive game time this season.

However, Bajcetic isn’t seen as quite ready to take the number six position regularly just yet and the club are looking to enter the market for a more established option.

Football Insider revealed (August 8) that Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Martin Zubimendi and have registered their interest in Adrien Rabiot in case talks collapse for the Real Sociedad man.

Slot is said to be happy with Bajcetic’s development and has played him in each of Liverpool’s pre-season games so far.

Stefan Bajcetic will be given plenty of Liverpool game time this season

Since breaking into the Liverpool first team under ex-manager Jurgen Klopp, Bajcetic has gone on to make 21 appearances and score once for his boyhood club.

He was outstanding during a run of starts in the 2021-22 campaign when he stood out in a struggling Liverpool midfield and shone in both a number six and more advanced central midfield roles. The teenager can also slot in at right-back and impressed when used in that position as well.

Liverpool regard the youngster highly but his injury record is a worry – at just 19 years old, he has already been out for a combined 429 days.
