Exclusive: Luton Town set to appoint Lincoln’s Marc Tracy as head of recruitment

Luton Town are set to appoint Lincoln chief scout Marc Tracy as their new head of recruitment, sources have told Football Insider.

Luton have been looking to bolster their recruitment department following the departure of head of scouting operations Phil Chapple earlier this month.

Tracy is highly-regarded in recruitment circles and previously had a brief spell as Head of Football Operations with Luton Town before spells at Cambridge and Lincoln.

Luton look to upgrade recruitment after relegation

Following their relegation from the Premier League, Luton shelled out £26.3million [transfermarkt] in a bid to replace some key pieces of their squad who had moved on.

Ross Barkley joined Aston Villa, whilst Chiedozie Ogbene joined Ipswich Town as the two most high-profile departures.

Mark McGuinness joined from Cardiff in a bid to strengthen then-manager Rob Edwards‘ backline, whilst Lamine Fanne was brought in on Deadline Day.

Despite both players being brought in to to add defensive solidity, Luton had the fourth leakiest defence in England’s second-tier.

Further moves were made in January to add to the squad, with the Hatters struggling to make the transition from the Premier League to the Championship.

But having suffered the ignominy of back-to-back relegations, Luton’s hierarchy are looking to address the root of the issue by overhauling their recruitment department.

Luton set to stick with Matt Bloomfield in hopes of immediate Championship return

Former Wycombe boss Matt Bloomfield was brought in to replace Edwards in January, with the Hatters desperately trying to arrest their slide down the Championship table.

Luton were 20th at the time, but following six wins in 20 games under the Englishman’s stewardship, a 5-3 loss to West Brom on the final day condemned the club to relegation.

However, despite failing to avoid the drop, it appears that the Hatters will stick with Bloomfield in the hopes he can guide them back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

When the former Colchester manager left the Chairboys, they were sitting second in League One and Luton will likely be busy this summer assembling a squad that can push for a return to England’s second-tier.
