Exclusive: Man City ‘confident’ over 115 charges after deal agreed

Manchester City are “confident” in their 115 charges case after agreeing a lucrative new sponsorship deal, sources have told Football Insider

Man City were dealt the charges by the Premier League in February 2023 for allegedly breaching the financial fair play (FFP) rules over a nine-year period between 2009 and 2018.

They are alleged to have concealed payments through third parties by disguising them as sponsorship revenue.

An independent commission hearing started in September last year and ended in December, with the panel still considering its verdict.

There has so far been little information provided about when the decision could be revealed, leading to concerns among Premier League clubs about how long the case could drag on for.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the case, Man City have now extended their partnership with Puma for a further 10 years, with the contract reportedly worth a minimum of £1billion.

The 10-time English champions initially signed a £65million-a-year deal with the German kit manufacturer in 2019.

Their latest deal, which is believed to be worth a Premier League record £100million a year, surpasses the £90million-a-year agreement rivals Manchester United signed with Adidas.

Sources say Man City and Puma have shown a sign of confidence the club will avoid a significant punishment in their 115 charges case after extending their partnership.

Man City have spent £300m after signing spree

It’s been business as usual for Man City in recent months despite the ongoing legal action behind the scenes.

Pep Guardiola’s side have been active in the transfer window throughout this calendar year after making several new additions.

The Manchester giants have spent around £300million on new signings in 2025, with Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Sverre Nypan the latest recruits through the door at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City will begin the new campaign away to Wolves on 16 August as they look to regain the Premier League title.

Man City to accelerate Diogo Costa deal after Ederson latest

In terms of another potential incoming at the Etihad, recruitment expert Mick Brown told Football Insider Man City have set their sights on Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa following speculation around Ederson’s future.

Ederson has just one year remaining on his contract and has been strongly linked with an exit in recent weeks.

Costa is believed to be one of Guardiola’s top targets to replace the Brazil international if he leaves the club this summer.
