Exclusive: Man City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey attracting EFL and Scotland interest
Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey is attracting interest from SPL and Championship clubs for a season-long loan, Football Insider understands.
Simpson-Pusey is a product of the Manchester City youth system and made his senior debut in an EFL Cup tie against Tottenham in October 2024.
The teenager has gone on to make six appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side so far, including 95 minutes across two Premier League outings, while he also won the PL2 Player of the Season award for 2024/25.
Simpson-Pusey has three caps to his name for England’s U18 side, while he’s also been called up to numerous U20 squads, but is yet to make his debut at that level.

Simpson-Pusey attracting loan interest
Despite his lack of experience and tender age, Simpson-Pusey has already caught his manager’s eye.
“We have a central defender to help us for the future, for the next years. I’m really pleased,” Guardiola said of him back in November (OneFootball, 24 November).

However, for now, it appears the centre-back will continue his development away from the Etihad Stadium.
Football Insider transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke has learned that multiple EFL Championship and Scottish Premiership clubs have expressed an interest in taking Simpson-Pusey on loan.
Simpson-Pusey isn’t the only Man City defender potentially on the move this summer, with veteran John Stones linked with a return to Everton.
Simpson-Pusey to benefit from loan opportunity
Simpson-Pusey needs only to speak to Nathan Ake to learn how effective a loan in the Championship can be for a young player — with the Dutchman proving himself at Reading and Watford during his Chelsea days before kicking on with Bournemouth.
And in reality, this will be the best move for the 19-year-old.
Though he picked up 313 welcome minutes for the first team last season, Simpson-Pusey didn’t play a single senior minute after his outing in an 8-0 FA Cup win over Salford on 11 January.
Since then, City have signed Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens, while they boast the likes of Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, Ake and Josko Gvardiol in a stacked defensive line-up — and that’s without mentioning Stones, who may yet remain at the Etihad.
Simpson-Pusey wouldn’t expect to see more minutes than he did this season, but heading out on loan allows him to establish himself as a senior player and test himself against opponents far more experienced and wily than him.
This could be the making of yet another talented City player coming off the production line.
