Exclusive: Man City have agreed terms of £60million buy-back deal
EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke
Manchester City have a £60million buy-back option on Rabbi Matondo following his move to Schalke, Football Insider understands.
The 18-year-old joined German side Schalke last month for an initial fee of £9.6million even though he was very highly-rated by the Premier League champions.
Matondo decided to leave City in the January transfer window because he was unable to break into Pep Guardiola’s first-team and joined Schalke because he felt it would offer him a quicker pathway to first-team football.
City were reluctant to lose Matondo, but a source close to the club has told Football Insider they insisted on inserting a buy-back option in the deal to give them the opportunity to re-sign the Wales international in the future.
Matondo followed in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho by leaving City for Germany, but after failing to include a buy-back option in Sancho’s move to Borussia Dortmund City were adamant in having a buy-back Claude in Matondo’s deal.
Matondo could come up against City later this month after being named in Schalke’s Champions League squad.
