Exclusive: Man City make decision on signing Kyle Walker replacement right away
Man City will not prioritise a direct replacement for Kyle Walker if he leaves the club this month, sources have told Football Insider.
Pep Guardiola revealed on Saturday (11 January) that City captain Walker, 34, has asked to leave the Etihad Stadium before the 3 February deadline.
Guardiola said: “In his [Walker’s] mind, he would like to explore it, to go to another country, to play the last years [somewhere else] for many reasons.”
AC Milan, Inter Milan and clubs from the Saudi Pro League are among the potential suitors for the England international.
Walker has made 18 appearances across all competitions this term and has already been replaced often in the starting lineup by City academy product Rico Lewis.
It is believed Lewis will be promoted to a key role in Guardiola’s plans should Walker leave the club, while incoming defender Abdukodir Khusanov will also be tasked with playing on the right side of the defence if needed.
Man City won’t prioritise direct Walker replacement
Khusanov, 20, is poised to join City from Ligue 1 side RC Lens for a fee of more than £33million – plus add-ons.
A long-term replacement for Walker at right-back will not be prioritised this month with Guardiola’s side looking at multiple signings in other positions.

Walker joined City in 2017 and has enjoyed a trophy-laden spell with the club, winning six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the Champions League.
The 93-cap England international has made 319 appearances under Guardiola but may have played his last game for the Citizens.
