Exclusive: ‘Man City opens negotiations on top summer signings’

Man City kickstarted their rebuild in the January window with four signings but look set to continue in the summer.

It was confirmed last week that the window will open early between 1 June and 10 June due to the new Club World Cup – which Man City and Chelsea will compete in.

City sporting director Txiki Begiristain will leave this summer but Pep Guardiola‘s side have already finalised the appointment of Sporting CP transfer chief Hugo Viana as a replacement.

Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne are out of contract in June and could be replaced for big money in the off-season.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted Man City will already be negotiating deals which will be “oven-ready” when the early window opens.

Man City already lining up early-summer deals, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted City are in a decent position with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The Premier League champions posted a pre-tax profit of £73.8million for the 2023-24 campaign.

Wyness claimed other clubs will also be in a position to strike deals in mid-June.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “They’ll be making moves.

“City are in a decent position with PSR, so they can go early. There are a few other clubs in decent situations who can go early as well.

“There’s this 10 or 12-day window, and there will be deals already being lined up and ready to go when that early window opens.

“City won’t be negotiating in that window, they will be cleaning up the deals that are already in action.

“These signings will be oven-ready for Guardiola and City.”

Bernardo Silva ‘wants to leave Man City’

Industry insider Mick Brown has told Football Insider (1 April) that Bernardo Silva wants to leave Man City in the summer transfer window.

City are braced for offers for Silva, who is attracting interest from a number of Spanish, Portuguese and Saudi clubs.

It is believed the 30-year-old feels his career at the Etihad has come to an end after winning all there is to win in England – and could now make a move away.
