Exclusive: Man City opening Phil Foden talks

Man City are planning to open talks with Phil Foden over a new mega-money contract, sources have told Football Insider.

The England star’s current deal, signed in October 2022, runs until the summer of 2027.

Man City are keen to secure their academy product, 25, to a long-term deal and retain his association with the club that began at the age of four.

Foden’s current agreement is worth over £200,000-a-week and topped up by performance-related bonuses.

He endured a below-par 2024-25 campaign but has been back to his best this season in a revitalised City line-up.

Foden wants to stay at Man City amid strong form this season

Foden has been much better so far this season compared to last, with four goals and three assists in 13 appearances and consistently impressive performances each week.

Football Insider revealed last month that City are keen to tie Foden down to a new contract following his good start to the campaign.

Foden shone against Borussia Dortmund in midweek, and his form has seen him earn a recall to the England squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers after missing three consecutive camps under Thomas Tuchel.

Sources have also told Football Insider that Foden is happy at Man City and wants to sign fresh terms.

City are unlikely to land Vinicius Junior to play alongside Foden

Despite Foden’s strong form, Pep Guardiola‘s side have still been overly-reliant on Erling Haaland to score their goals so far this season.

They are constantly striving to add more stars to their ranks, and Football Insider revealed on 2 November that Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, with City one of those, in case he becomes available.

The Madrid star cut a frustrated figure in their recent El Clasico win over Barcelona and insisted that he wanted to leave the club after being substituted by Xabi Alonso.

Despite uncertainty around his future in the Spanish Capital, sources have told Football Insider that Madrid are not open to the idea of losing Vinicius any time soon and remain hopeful that he will put pen to paper to a new contract to dispel rumours of a possible move to the Etihad.
