Jackie McNamara claims that Rangers defender Borna Barisic is now “undroppable” under Steven Gerrard after pulling off an impressive turnaround at Ibrox.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Scotland international says that it looks to have taken the Croatian some time to bed in at the Glasgow giants but that he has emerged as one of Gerrard’s main men in the side.

As revealed by Football Insider, the Gers boss was prepared to sell the 27-year-old after an indifferent first season at the club but that his work rate and attitude saw him turn his fortunes around.

With the 11-cap international making 13 consecutive starts for the Light Blues across all competitions, keeping the likes of Jon Flanagan and Andy Halliday out the side, McNamara says that the former Osijek man has done well to cement his place in the starting XI.

Asked if Barisic was now undroppable for Gerrard, McNamara told Football Insider: “Yeah, he is, aye.

“Sometimes it takes a bit of time to settle in to a team, it takes time to settle in and adjust to the football. He’s done well.”

Barisic has a total of 40 appearances under his belt for the Gers since joining in the summer of 2018, with 18 of those outings coming this season.

He has not only been defensively sound but has offered an attacking threat down the left-hand flank, chipping in with eight assists and three goals across all competitions.

In other Rangers news, Football Insider can reveal that the club are in talks to sign a 29-year-old as one of four possible signings.
