Jackie McNamara has claimed that Celtic pair Vakoun Issouf Bayo and Boli Bolingoli are both struggling with the demands of playing for the Hoops this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Parkhead star said that the duo’s injury problems since the return to pre-season suggest their bodies are still yet to acclimatise after their respective moves to Glasgow.
Bayo joined the Hoops back in January, with just one competitive minute under his belt for the club, while Bolingoli has played in all four of their Champions League qualifiers to date.
However, the full-back has picked up two minor injuries which have forced him off in recent weeks and McNamara suggests that both he and Bayo, who is missing through injury, are still yet to get used to the physical demands of playing for Celtic.
He told Football Insider: “I think they would take time to adjust to the differences from where they are used to with the training and the intensity.
“Same with Bayo (as Bolingoli), who’s been injured, in that little bit of pre-season he looked good and then he picked up an injury. It’s different from what they’re used to and they’ve picked up little niggling injuries. Their bodies aren’t used to it.”
Bolingoli played 73 times for former side Rapid Vienna before making the move from the Austrian capital to Glasgow and has European experience under his belt in both the Champions League and Europa League.
