Jackie McNamara put Celtic defender Boli Bolingoli’s recent struggles down to the fact he was still recovering from injury.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Parkhead hero admitted that the left-back looked out of sorts against Hibernian and needs to do some catching up in order to regain his fitness as well as his concentration.
Bolingoli played 90 minutes of the 2-0 win over Hibernian at the weekend but was omitted from the matchday squad for the mid-week win over Hearts.
McNamara showed Bolingoli sympathy by pointing out he’d only just returned to action following his hamstring injury.
When asked about it looking like Boli is struggling to put everything together at the moment based on his latest display, McNamara told Football Insider: “Yeah but again he’s just come back from injury.
“He missed a few games, he’s featured in the last two, maybe he needs to do some catching up in order to get back to full fitness and concentration.”
The 24-year-old left-back revealed after the win against Hibs that he was just relieved to get 90 minutes under his belt.
The game against Hibs was Bolingoli’s first league outing since October, the 4-0 win over Aberdeen, although he has featured in the 2-0 loss to Cluj since then.
The Hoops left-back has been a member of Neil Lennon’s squad since the summer after joining from Austrian club Rapid Vienna.
In other Celtic news, Darren Bent admitted that he thought Hoops star was frustrated as eager to stay.
