Exclusive: Brown reacts to big update on Leeds player he had doubts over
Michael Brown insists there was “no better time” for Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla to be suspended after he was charged by the Football Association.
The former Leeds and Tottenham midfielder, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists that three successive clean sheets means replacement Illan Meslier comes in with a confident defence ahead of him.
Leeds confirmed last week that Casilla had been found guilty of the FA’s rules on abusive and/or insulting language for an incident back in September, the Spaniard handed an eight-game ban and £60,000 fine.

Meslier, 19, took the 33-year-old’s place between the sticks, keeping Hull City at bay in a 4-0 win on Saturday afternoon.
Brown told Football Insider: “As players you just get on with your job, clubs and the FA have their procedure and you, as a player, just wait for them to decide where and what.
“He (Casilla) made a mistake the other week, we were asking: ‘What would happen, would he make a change?’ The manager, he didn’t make that change but now he has to.

“He’s (Meslier) come in, he played against Arsenal and I think he’ll do well, he’ll be confident, when you’re playing with a defence in front of you that’s keeping clean sheets, there’s no better time to do it. It should do him good.”
Casilla had played in every single one of the club’s 35 Championship games before his ban, with a total of 56 appearances under his belt since signing in January 2019.
He will be eligible to return to the side for the final three games of the season.
