Danny Mills claims that Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow might have blown a move to Leeds United after being pictured in a controversial incident in the north east.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds defender says that the report from the Daily Mail, which pictures Darlow and teammate Jonjo Shelvey involved in a late-night physical altercation with members of the public, could scupper his chances of leaving St James’ Park this summer.
As exclusively revealed by Football Insider, Leeds have made an approach to try and sign the 28-year-old goalkeeper either on loan or permanently, having been keen on his capture back in January.
However, Mills claims that the keeper might well have blown his chances of becoming Leeds’ new goalkeeper with a cloud hanging over his head as a result of the bust-up.
He told Football Insider: “He has been involved an incident, should we say? That could put any move on hold. From images you see online, it doesn’t look great.
“I would be tempted to say that any potential move that he has got in mind will now be put on hold until things have calmed down a little bit and proceedings have been dealt with.
“The last thing you want to bring in is a player with unresolved baggage. It could go horribly wrong.”
Darlow featured just once last season for Newcastle, Martin Dubravka very much Rafael Benitez’s first choice between the sticks, with a 3-1 defeat to former side Nottingham Forest his only outing.
He has 140 games worth of Championship experience under his belt during his time at St James’ Park and the City Ground, as well as 19 Premier League matches under his belt.
