Danny Mills heaped praise on Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian and shared that he thought the Spanish shot-stopper had nothing to lose.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former England international revealed that he had been left in awe of the Reds keeper as he had unexpectedly been able to really step up for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Adrian was signed by Liverpool in the summer when a free agent and was forced straight into action in the club’s opening league game of the season against Norwich City after first-choice option Alisson went down injured.
Mills explained that Adrian was benefiting from playing under no real pressure as he knows no matter what he does, when Alisson is fit he will be dropped.
“He has really stepped up and it was probably unexpected when he first got in the side, but now he’s probably thinking I’ve got nothing to lose,” Mills told Football Insider.
“I’ve got the jersey, I’m in possession of it, and he knows full well that when Alisson comes back, he is probably going to play, no matter how good I play, so I should just relax and do my best.
“There is no real pressure on him.”
Adrian has played seven times across all competitions for the season, conceding eight goals and keeping one clean sheet in the process.
In his 2018/19 campaign when at West Ham, the 32-year-old struggled for playing time as he managed to make only five appearances across all competitions.
