Exclusive: Spurs player trying to force exit by picking fight with Mourinho – pundit claim
Danny Mills suggested that Tottenham defender Danny Rose may be trying to force an early exit from Spurs.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former England full-back revealed he thought Rose was picking an unwinnable fight with Mourinho based on his latest remarks.
The 29-year-old left-back recently stated that he didn’t need to have a chat with Mourinho about his future as he’s definitely staying for the last 18 months of his contract, and he questioned who was in control of the club.
Mills revealed that he thought Rose may be trying to manoeuvre an exit from Spurs due to slipping down the pecking order and attempting to make it look like it’s Mourinho’s fault if he leaves.
When asked if Rose’s remarks undermine Mourinho, Mills told Football Insider: “Yeah I think we’ve seen in the past, taking Mourinho on is not a very good idea in any way shape or form.
“Maybe if you’re the top player at the football club and you’re the first name on the teamsheet scoring 25 goals a season, you’ve got half a chance.
“If you’re a second-choice left-back at the moment, not in great form, coming back from injury, running your contract down, it’s not going to go well for you, simple as that.
“Maybe he’s trying to force a move out early, maybe he’s looking at it thinking I’m surplus to requirements, Mourinho doesn’t really fancy me as the left-back and therefore I’ll try to force a move elsewhere.
“And I’ll try to make it look like it’s Mourinho’s fault, rather than my own.”
Rose has played 14 times across all competitions this season, racking up two assists in the process.
The England international has been at the North London club since joining from Leeds United in 2007 and has racked up a total of 212 appearances for the club.
In other Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED that Mourinho has shut the door on Spurs player exit as talks advance on new three-year deal.
