Danny Mills has been left tearing his hair out over Leeds United winger Helder Costa after his frustrating performances this season.

The former Leeds and England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists that the Portuguese attacker has the ability to dazzle but is too inconsistent with his form.

Costa was a constant threat against Brentford on Tuesday night but was unable to deliver the cutting edge as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at Griffin Park.

Having seen the 26-year-old impress in flashes at Elland Road since his move from Wolves, Mills admits the most frustrating thing is knowing he has the talent when he fails to deliver.

“All players with great ability, it’s not an issue but you’re always like: ‘Come on, give us a bit more, give us a bit more consistency, add a little bit more to that,'” Mills told Football Insider.

“That’s what it’s all about, that’s what it comes down to. Players like that frustrate you more than anything else. That’s the best way you can look at it.

“You know they have all the potential, know the ability that they have in there, sometimes they just don’t perform as you’d expect.”

Costa, who joined Leeds on a loan-to-buy deal last summer, has struggled to produce in the final third on a consistent basis, with just three goals and two assists in 32 Championship appearances.

He has played in every single game for Marcelo Bielsa since moving to Elland Road and has a total of 103 second-tier appearances under his belt after his time at Wolves.
