Exclusive: Lennon told to name Celtic stars who want to quit Parkhead

Frank McAvennie has urged Neil Lennon to publicly name any players that want away after the Celtic boss’ revealing post-match comments yesterday.

The Hoops legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that the 49-year-old “obviously does not like” Patryk Klimala as the forward watched on from the bench last night.

Lennon came out firing in his post-match press conference and told his players to leave if they do not want to be at Celtic Park this season.

The Bhoys failed to qualify for the Champions League group stages for the third successive season after a 2-1 home defeat to Hungarian champions Ferencvaros.

Odsonne Edouard was sidelined for the match but there was still no opportunity for forward Klimala, who was an unused substitute.

When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to Lennon’s comments, McAvennie said:

“I would go one further than Lenny. I would say that if you do not want to play, do not play and I would name them. I would name them all. Let the fans know if the strikers are not fit.

“He obviously does not like Klimala. I thought Klimala was coming on nicely. To be fair to the boy he was way down the rankings but he got himself fit, pushed himself, came in and scored the goal – he deserved the chance last night.

“Maybe Ajeti is not fit but they have just spent £5million on Ajeti and Lenny just used him in the second half. Do not just bring him on for 10 minutes, that is not right. Unless he had no say in the transfer. I would have put him up front.”

Lennon said: “Get your mentality right, get your attitude right. If some of you don’t want to be here, leave.”

Asked if he believed some players did not want to be at the club, he responded: “In some cases.”
