Exclusive: Newcastle ‘confident’ of agreeing Alexander Isak deal

Newcastle United are now “confident” of agreeing a new contract with star striker Alexander Isak, sources have told Football Insider.

The Magpies are confident of keeping hold of Isak, 24, despite strong interest from Chelsea – which was brought about due to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) concern at St James’ Park.

But after a late twist before the deadline to submit accounts on 30 June, Newcastle cashed in on Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson – and it is believed their PSR worries have eased.

As revealed by Football Insider (29 June), Chelsea approached Newcastle with a player-plus-cash offer for Isak with three stars suggested as makeweights in a potential deal.

It is believed the interest has flattered the Sweden international, but sources say he remains happy at Newcastle.

Newcastle ready to offer bumper Isak contract

Isak is in no rush to leave the Magpies – who can now focus on handing the striker a reward for his scintillating form in the 2023-24 campaign.

The 24-year-old’s current deal is set to run until June 2028 following his arrival from Real Sociedad two years ago.

He hit 25 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign – 36 of which came as part of the starting lineup.
