Exclusive: Newcastle set to terminate loan deal early

Newcastle United are ready to terminate the loan deal of striker Elias Sorensen early, Football Insider understands.

The forward, 20, has struggled to make an impact at League Two club Carlisle United since joining on a season-long loan in the summer.

A Newcastle source has told Football Insider that the club are set to reach an agreement with Carlisle over ending Sorensen’s loan at the midway point when the January window opens in two weeks’ time.

The Denmark Under-21 international had been expected to make a big impact in English football’s fourth tier after scoring prolifically for his parent club at age-group level.

But he has made just one league start among 12 appearances in all competitions and been a bit-part player.

Sorensen has not been able to replicate his Newcastle Under-23 and Under-18s scoring feats at Carlisle.

He has yet to open his goal account for the club and has supplied just a single assist.

Newcastle had hoped Sorensen would be a regular in Chris Beech’s side.

He barely got a look-in under former manager Steven Pressley but his situation has barely altered following the change of manager.

Sorensen had a similarly frustrating loan spell at League One outfit Blackpool last season, mustering just a single game.

This came after prolific scoring for Newcastle’s youth teams, including 16 in 27 Under-23s matches and 15 goals in 34 games for the club’s Under-18s.

In other Newcastle United news, it can be REVEALED that the club have set their sights on signing two players from Everton in January.
