Exclusive: Oliver Glasner ‘very much’ wants Man United job after what’s just happened at Crystal Palace

Oliver Glasner would “very much” welcome the opportunity to manage Manchester United, sources have told Football Insider.

The Austrian has caught the eye for his work in charge of Crystal Palace, but his departure from the South London outfit is now said to be “inevitable,” with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Football Insider has now learned that the Manchester United job is one that provides huge appeal to him, despite the upheaval that has taken place at Old Trafford in recent years.

Glasner has been linked with several of the Premier League’s biggest jobs during his time in charge of Palace, and with his exit now seen as a formality, the door may open for United to swoop in.

Oliver Glasner among early favourites for Manchester United job

Links between Glasner and Manchester United have strengthened significantly of late, and he has quickly emerged as the early favourite to replace Amorim in the dugout.

Darren Fletcher has been placed in interim charge of the team in the immediate aftermath of the sacking, and a caretaker could even be put in place to guide the club through until the summer.

That would allow United to make a move for Glasner without having to pay any sort of compensation fee in order to take him from their Premier League rivals.

The 51-year-old currently leads the way in the eyes of the bookmakers, with the likes of former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca and Laurent Blanc trailing behind.

Xavi, Gareth Southgate and Julian Nagelsmann have also been put forward as potential candidates, but nobody can match the strength of Glasner’s links at the moment.

Who else could Glasner join when he leaves Crystal Palace?

Football Insider revealed at the start of December that Glasner is attracting interest from several clubs across Europe as his Crystal Palace tenure begins to wind down.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt boss looks set to have plenty of options when he does step away from Selhurst Park, and a return to the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich was even mooted earlier in the season.

Tottenham have also been heavily linked with him of late, but suggestions of a potential switch to Old Trafford have refused to go away for several months now.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co. look set to face a fight to appoint Glasner if they decide to make a move for him, but they have plenty of time to plan their advance ahead of the summer.
