Exclusive: Oxford United open talks to sign Luton Town’s Christ Makosso
Oxford United have opened talks to sign Luton Town defender Christ Makosso, sources have told Football Insider.
The centre-back, 21, is keen on a move away from Kenilworth Road as he wants to be playing at a higher level than League One.
Oxford boss Matt Bloomfield is a big fan of the defender having worked with him during his time in charge of Luton and he is keen for a reunion.
Makosso joined the Hatters from Belgian side RWDM last January, but could not prevent them being relegated from the Championship.

Makosso could soon reunite with Bloomfield at Oxford
The 21-year-old featured 13 times for Luton last term following his January arrival, with Bloomfield being appointed as their new boss just two weeks later.
Makosso made an impact, despite relegation, and picked up the club’s Young Player of the Season and Signing of the Season awards last April.
Bloomfield was sacked by Luton in October with Jack Wilshere hired as his replacement, and the Congo international has struggled to nail down a starting place in the third-tier ever since.
Makosso has played 15 times in 2025-26, with 10 league starts so far, but he could soon reunite with Bloomfield, who was appointed as Oxford’s new boss on 9 January.
The U’s are in the market for defensive reinforcements to help them avoid relegation from the Championship this season, as they currently sit three points from safety in 23rd.
Oxford will need to increase their offer to sign Reading star Charlie Savage
Defenders are not the only position on Bloomfield’s radar as it stands, with numerous new signings already made this month and players in other areas of the pitch continually targeted.
Football Insider revealed that Reading‘s Savage was on the radar of numerous Championship clubs last summer after he registered seven goals and 13 assists in 51 games across 2024-25.

The 22-year-old son of Robbie has continued to shine in the middle of the park for the Royals this season, with sources revealing to Football Insider that Oxford had seen a £500,000 bid for Savage rejected earlier this month.
Their valuation of his services is believed to be a lot higher, so the U’s may well have to splash the cash in the final stages of the window if they wish to add him to Bloomfield’s squad.
