Exclusive: Paul Robinson rips into Leeds player who 'stops the flow of the game'

Paul Robinson described Patrick Bamford as “wayward and wasteful” as Leeds United lost 1-0 at home to Wigan this weekend.

The former England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, says that an inability to take chances has become a “thorn in the Leeds’ side” over the past 18 months.

Bamford, 26, has come under criticism of late for his form in front of goal, despite being the clubs top scorer with 12 goals in 29 appearances this season.

The Whites have now failed to score in four of their last five games, losing all four games in which they have failed to find the back of the net.

When asked to identify the problem at Elland Road, Robinson told Football Insider: “We seem to be talking about the same old story every week. They are dominating games but they are just lacking creativity and the ability to finish chances in the final third.

“It is the same story week in week out. Dominating games with more than 70% possession, creating 18 to 20 chances and being unable to put teams away. It has been a constant thorn in Leeds’ side now for the last 18 months.

“Patrick Bamford up-front was wayward and wasteful with his chances again. He gives away far too many fouls when out of possession which stops the flow of the game.”

The former Middlesborough striker has added competition between now and the end of the season after Jean-Kevin Augustin arrived on loan from RB Leipzig this January.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side dropped to second in the Championship table following the defeat to league strugglers Wigan Athletic, three points ahead of third-placed Fulham.

In other Leeds United news, Noel Whelan has heaped praise on one Whites player after yesterday’s performance.
